Microbiology Lab Technician - J010449 SJH, Hull


Our client is recruiting for a Microbiology Lab Technician. To contribute to the delivery of a Microbiology programme that enables the R&D team to design and commercialise new products. To apply technical/scientific expertise to the resolution of microbiology issues.
The Role

  • R&D Project Delivery – Co-ordinate and conduct a variety of experiments using best practice methods/local SOPs in support of designated new product developments. Involves working to agreed schedules that support challenging project timeframes.
  • Data analysis and reporting - Using agreed formats, record experimental data and prepare reports on work undertaken. This includes presenting initial analysis, conclusions and recommendations as a basis for further discussion and research.
  • Microbiology media preparation and waste disposal –
  • Plan for and maintain the regular supply of standard microbiological media and reagents for a variety of experiments.
  • Ensure all microbiological media and reagents meet the quality control procedures and use best practice methods in support of the Microbiology team.
  • Ensure that all general housekeeping duties are organised and performed to schedule.

Key Experience/ Skills


  • Knowledge/experience of basic microbiology techniques e.g. culturing and serial dilutions.
  • Organisational and prioritising skills.
  • Ability to clearly convey technical information and ideas to a variety of individuals and groups with different levels of understanding.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment with minimal supervision.
  • Experience of working within quality management systems e.g. ISO 9001, UKAS 17025, ISO 13485 etc. (desirable but not essential).
  • Knowledge of using Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer.
  • Further knowledge of antimicrobial testing methodologies, standards and best practice (desirable but not essential).
  • Degree in relevant scientific discipline? (desirable but not essential).
